Calling Back

Today I sent a few minutes doing follow up calls to places that I sent a cover letter and a copy of my resume to. The one place that e-mailed me back was Datacaster (a stealth mode company). However when I called the number from the website, I received your standard "I'm sorry the number you are trying to reach..." I had no idea that Datacaster took its 'stealth' so seriously that you couldn't even call the office.

I decided to send an e-mail off to Populore Publishing in Westover. I have interviewed the head editor, Mrs. Sielen, for my 301 project and hope she will bring me on as an intern.

Maybe they are being stealthy so they can only attract quality candidates for the job. This could be a challenge for you to be extra professional and make yourself look ten times better on a resume and cover letter for these super secretive people.

Thanks for the update, Jesse. Here's hoping that you're able to find a position at Populore Publishing and also that your previous interactions with Populore will give you an "in" since you know how the editorial process works there. Be sure to follow up your email soon with a phone call.

The phone call is a great idea. In my (admittedly limited) experience, the more personal a gesture you can make, the better. I know absolutely nothing about the company to which you are applying, but if they are at all close, I would even recommend going in and, basically, smiling at the receptionist. I know thats not the most professional of things to advise, but, in my experience, I still advise it. Hope you get it.
